Frequently Asked Questions

IMPORTANT
To ensure you get the best user experience and understand certain limitations of the miRoamer BlackBerry application, here are a few things you should know:
  • Check with your service provider that you have a valid WAP Data plan/package. A WAP data plan is best and will ensure that you will be able to play ALL of the miRoamer application’s streaming content.
  • Check with your telecommunications provider that you have a valid BIS plan. Important: Not all stations are able to stream over the BIS network.
  • Check that your APN settings are correct. Click HERE to view a list of the most popular carriers and their APN settings.
  • The application requires the latest BlackBerry OS versions. Please refer HERE to check if your telecommunication provider provides the latest required OS for your phone.

  2. Check with your carrier to ensure you have the appropriate data plan in place which allows for you to stream digital media.

I’m using WAP as my default connectivity but nothing works.

  1. From your BlackBerry, go to Options > Advanced Options > TCP/IP > Enter APN settings for your carrier. Click HERE to view a list of the most popular carriers and APN settings.
  2. Check with your carrier if your APN settings are not found on the list.

I keep getting “Player can’t stream station” error. What’s wrong?

There can be a number of issues:
  1. The station you have selected is not broadcasting at this time (not a 24 hour station).
  2. The station’s streaming server has reached its streaming limit.
  3. Geographical streaming restrictions (eg. restricted broadcasting outside certain regions).

How much streaming data will it use?

Who do I contact should I need support?

Please send an email to support@miroamer.com. Please include the following details:
  1. The BlackBerry® Smartphone model (e.g. Bold 9700)
  2. The BlackBerry® Smartphone’s operating OS – Go to Options > About > It should look something like this: v.1.2.3.456

Which devices are supported?

BlackBerry® Bold 9700, Bold 9000, Pearl 9100 and Curve 8520.

I can’t find a particular station!

Go to http://miroamer.com/info/contact and tell us more about that station that is missing.

Why do some of the stations not play on the application when they play on the miRoamer web page?

  1. The audio format may not be supported on the device.
  2. The stream’s bitrates may not be supported on the device.

What audio codecs are supported in the most current version (v.?)?

WMA, MP3 and AAC

Can I choose the stream bitrates and codecs to stream?

No user selection is necessary. The application will automatically select the best bitrate and codec available for your device.

How do I add stations to my favourites list?

In the miRoamer BlackBerry Application, select the ‘Add to Favourites’ icon on the ‘Now Playing’ page to add the station to your favourites.

What is BIS-B?

BIS-B refers to the BlackBerry Network. This network is available to users who subscribe to use this service.

What is WAP?

WAP is the data network provided by your carrier. Stations streaming over this network are credited against your personal data usage plan. IMPORTANT: You should check and understand your carrier data usage charges, including data allocations and excess data charges. For more information on streaming data consumption please refer to table HERE

What are my network streaming options?

You may select from either WAP, BIS-B and WiFi

I get different results for local radio if I ‘m using WAP or WiFi. Why is that?

  1. WAP – Uses cell tower triangulation, which typically returns a more accurate location position.
  2. WiFi – Uses your device’s IP address to calculate your geographic location, which is not as accurate as cell phone triangulation positioning.

The streaming audio drops out intermittently. Why is this happening?

  1. A loss of connectivity due to poor cellular reception.
  2. Check with your carrier for service coverage and quality of service in your area of use.

What is the difference between the paid and unpaid versions?

The paid version does not contain any banner ads and has an in-application support feature.

I’ve received a link to download the application and when I clicked on the link it does not work.
